A little about our presenters:

Damien Browne, Assistant Commissioner, Review and Dispute Resolution Australian Taxation Office. Presentation entitled "Tax Dispute Resolution Options"

Damien is responsible for the ATO's management of tax disputes involving individual taxpayers. Damien also has portfolio responsibility for the ATO's alternative Dispute Resolution services, most notably In-House Facilitation and Dispute Assist, and for dispute prevention. Damien joined the ATO in 2007 from the commonwealth Obmudsman's office, where he was variously responsible for information technology, public and international affairs,public contact, and support for the taxation and Defence Force Ombudsman roles. In his time with the ATO he has been responsible for legal and tax technical policy and practice, including advice and guidance, dispute resolution and settlements, and national pratice managment for ATO Legal Services. Damien holds a BA (Hons)/LLB from the ANU. 

Nicole Dykstra, Assistant Commissioner, Early Intervention - Debt, Australian Taxation Office. Presentation entitled "Helping Small Business & Individuals - How the ATO is improving the client experience". 

Nicole's primary responsibility is to engage clients and employ a strategic early intervention approach to assist in education clients and influencing their behavior towards willing participation in the tax and superannuation systems. 

Nicole began her career in the ATO as a graduate and has undertaken many varied roles including leading an organisational review to establish the ATO's independent review function for large business and more recently providing strategic leadership of the ATO's SuperStream initiative in close consultation with the Superannuation Industry. 

Nicole is located in Townsville, Queensland and has a number of key responsibilities for the region - she is the site sponsor for the ATO's Townsville office as well as Chair of the North Queenlsand Australian Government Leadership Network Committee (AGLN - NQ). The AGLN-NQ aims to support Australian Public Service (APS) leaders by providing forums for leadership development; exchanging innovative thinking, ideas, knowledge and experience; facilitating whole-of-government approaches to APS activities; and reducing the impact of geographical isolation from national offices.
