Professor Ian Meyers is a general dental practitioner and honorary professor at The University of Queensland School of Dentistry. Over the last thirty five years he has been involved in dental research, clinical dentistry, private practice, university and hospital based dental clinics.

 

His previous positions include being appointed as the inaugural Colgate Chair of Dental General Practice Dentistry, Chief Dental Officer for Queensland Health, and President of the Queensland Branch of the Australian Dental Association. He is Fellow and current Board member of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and the International College of Dentists, and is a Fellow of the Academy of Dentistry International and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.

 

Throughout his career as an academic and clinician he has developed extensive experience in comprehensive patient care, diagnosis and management of worn and broken down dentition, geriatric and aged care dentistry, adhesive restorative dentistry and dental materials, and the management of patients in general dental practice through minimum intervention dentistry.

Dr Simon Parsons - Dentolegal Adviser

Dr Simon Parsons is a dentolegal adviser for Dental Protection and a practising dentist with around 30 years’ experience working in private dental practice. Dr Parsons tutored dental undergraduates and dental assistants and continues to enjoy teaching and mentoring oral health professionals. He has balanced his interest in clinical treatment and practice management in various roles, having run large multidisciplinary dental practices for over a decade.

With broad experience in risk management issues, Dr Parsons has conducted clinical governance activities for several major health funds. He spent three years serving as Clinical Director at Australian Health Management and then as Acting National Dental Director for Medibank Private. More recently he has worked as a Senior Clinical and Technical Consultant for the Modern Dental group, providing advice, education and clinical support for Southern Cross Dental and Andent dental laboratories. As part of the Dental Protection team, he is keen to share his risk management knowledge and experience with fellow dental practitioners. He completed an MBA in 2001.
